Biography
Penny’s Twisted Flavour was founded in 2006, pursuing to create and develop the band’s own music. This resulted in the album ”Sketches”. The band characterizes itself by combining the old symphonic rock with the new progressive rock. They find most of the inspiration in those musical areas (think of Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Porcupine Tree, Spock’s Beard, Jadis, Asia and many more). Outside the progressive rock scene there are other musical directions influencing their music as well.
The band was brought into existence by Mark Bogert, Matthijs Kieboom and Harmen Kieboom. With the arrival of Bob Fridzema and Marc Mes in 2006 the band was complete and started writing their first songs, later to be recorded on the EP called “Inside”. It was a succes and they started to write more songs to eventually record a debut album. In 2007 Bob Fridzema left the band and was replaced by Wendy Heuvelmans.
In 2007 Penny’s Twisted Flavour had a number of live performances and was aiming to establish their name in the progressive rock scene. The band got many highly esteemed reactions and decided to go for it. They went to the studio for 1½ years to record the album “Sketches”. Their goal was to give melodies and recognition an important role and make variations through high quality instrumental parts. During the recording period, PTF has been very critical on the song structure, composition and production.
A nice addition is that Ton Scherpenzeel (Kayak, Camel) was very positive about the album during this period and played a keyboard solo in the song “A Way Out”.
Penny’s Twisted Flavour is ready to present their album on stage with a kick-ass live show. And very much motivated they have already started writing new songs for the next album.
